The Budd Bay Rugby Club is an underdog in the sports arena in Thurston county. We are not well known even though we have been Thurston County’s competitive Rugby club for over 20 years. Originally, we were founded as a men’s rugby club in 1998 but have expanded to adult women, high school age boys and girls, coed 8th grade and younger rugby. Rugby itself is the most social sport there is. After every match or tournament the hosting team has a social where all the players integrate and relinquish any leftover on field anger. The level of respect and sportsmanship in this game in unparalleled. This, in turn, leads to developing players and individuals from a very young age to be kind, treat others with respect and to have great sportsmanship values. Countless players have been forever changed by rugby. From retired Military personnel dealing with the transition of solider to civilian, to divorcees looking for people to call family, the camaraderie of Budd Bay is known to fill voids and give those of loss a purpose. This fund raiser is aimed at continuing to be able to provide the community with an atmosphere of belonging. The money goes directly to securing practice fields, paying for referees, travel costs for teams making playoffs, player scholarships for those who cannot afford gear and the dues to play. At the end of the day, Budd Bay Rugby is the only organization south of Tacoma and North of Vancouver that is offering this sport to those who interested in playing or learning to play. Awareness of this club needs to be a priority if we are to continue with what we have worked so hard for. Now more than ever members of the Budd Bay Buffaloes are realizing how important it is to involve the community in which we represent in order to succeed.
